It's about understanding who God is and who He said He is. In removing Father and Son, we rob others from knowing Him as Father and redeemer. Where is our salvation? By Whom are we saved? Creating a Bible that doesn't offend Muslims i.e removing Father, Son and Son of God is a violation of Rev. 22:18,19.. I'm researching Islam and apparently you haven't done thorough research. Your new "Bible" is just re-enforcing in the Muslim eyes that the "Christian Bible" has been corrupted.

I am concerned that this translation of the Bible is misleading would-be Christians by avoiding certain key descriptions of GOD the Father and GOD the Son (JESUS CHRIST) in order not to offend them. In order to become born-again Christian we have to be offended about our sinful nature and the need to repent in order to be saved and go to Heaven and not Hell when we leave this life. The Christian message makes it clear that GOD the Father sent GOD the Son to die for our sins and rise again on the 3rd day to give us hope of eternal life. I am signing because it is absolutely imperative that translators remain faithful to the original Hebrew and Greek. texts. God Himself instructs that nothing be added to or taken from His Word. We will all stand before God to give account of our stewardship of His gifts. I would not want to have to stand before God and try to explain why I submitted to the pressures of man to alter Scripture whilst not remaining faithful and obedient to His directives.

I appreciate the translators deisres to make the Scriptures understandable to all people but we cannot change the Word of God. His Word is sometimes offensive but that is okay, it is still truth. To change the integrity of an historical document to please a subgroup of society is doing the WRONG thing for the WRONG reason. It is not man that "fixes" the problems of the world, nor devises better schemes to "help" God. Any modification, removal, addition to what God does or says always creates failure - regardless if it was driven by good intentions or by evil.

The Trinity--Father, Son and Holy Ghost--is the anchor of the Gospel; the atonement--the pouring out of the wrath of God the Father upon the God the Son, in substitution for the sinner's eternal death, and the pouring out of God the Father's mercy and love upon the sinner because of God the Son's finished work on the cross--is the central truth of the Gospel. To water this down so as not to cause offense is offensive to the Godhead and the Gospel.

This is a critical issue for the preservation of the authenticity of the biblical texts and their translation, as well as the sonship of Christ in His eternal relationship within the Godhead. Plus it does not eliminate the other major Muslim objections. If we wanted to remove all of them we should need to do extensive surgeries to the Bible, which has been attempted in thepast. Compromising the text of holy scripture is a compromise that is both threatening to the historical Christian faith and does not really solve the problem anyway.

We have been proud supporters and co-workers with Wycliffe and SIL missionaries as we are missionaries as well. We cannot, in good faith, support a mission organization that denies the Trinity/God-head and the Father-Son relationship that is clearly seen throughout God's Holy Scripture. Because these translations render the Holy Spirt inspired word of Yahweh ineffective and if the translators start here where will they end with illegitemising the Word of Yahweh.

Yes, I purposefully greet this way so that there be no doubt that I am outraged that professing Christians could even think of changing the bible, let alone as HERETICALLY as Wycliffe/SIL are doing. I am totally opposed to it (1) because it obscures the clear gospel doctrine that God the divine son incarnated in Jesus of Nazareth to die for the sins of all humanity(Arabs included), and (2) it plays right into the hands of Satan whose only way of putting other religions on par with Christianity is to reduce our champion Christ to the level of a mere man. As the resurrected Christ asserted through His apostle Paul (Galatians 1:6-10) “6 I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel. 7Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would PERVERT the gospel of Christ. 8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be ACCURSED. 9 As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be ACCURSED. 10 For do I now persuade men, or God? Or do I seek to PLEASE MEN? For if I yet pleased men, I should NOT be the servant of Christ”. I thus justifiably conclude that Wycliffe/SIL are NOT serving God in doing this and bid them to repent, please REPENT!!!

The terms "Father" & "Son" convey a unique Christian perspective on God and it is in error to remove these in fear of offending new Muslim readers. The new Muslim readers would be kept from understanding the intimacy and mind-blowing impact of the Incarnation in its fullness.

Every Muslim needs a personal relationship with their Father in Heaven just as much as we in the West do.

I believe the Bible is the infallible Word of God (plenary inspiration) and any possible cultural misunderstandings should be addressed by teaching and explanation rather than alterations of the text itself.

I recently returned from a mission's trip to South Asia and saw first hand the adverse effects that this translation & those who hold to it have on the church. Rather than making the gospel more clear and accessible to those in a Muslim culture I saw that it created confusion and even animosity toward the church. Many support this movement out of a desire to ease persecution and strengthen the church overseas, but in my assessment I would go so far as to say that it has contributed to the persecution of the church in Asia.

We shall not break faith with those Christian martyrs who died for the Son of God, Jesus Christ the LORD, the one and ONLY sufficient sacrifice and Door to Heaven.

All we know about God is vitally linked to the clarity and authority of His written word. This is how He intended to communicate with us and it is incumbent upon us to interpret His word in a manner which leads us to understand what He intended to be understood, not in any other way which might be considered to be socially acceptable. Is it wise to fail to apply the principals of the Lord's warnings in Revelations 22 to the rest of His Scriptures? Rev. 22:18 ¶ I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: if anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book, Rev. 22:19 and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away his share in the tree of life and in rthe holy city, which are described in this book.

As a man called to be a shepherd of God's flock, I am outraged that these so called "evangelical" organizations have taken it upon themselves to tamper, dilute, and overtly change the written Word of God. When God calls a man to labor as an evangelist He calls him to be a herald of God's message, not the editor in chief of that message. Those responsible for this at Wycliffe Bible Translators are guilty of gross rebellion against the King of kings and the Lord of lords. They have proven that they fear men more than God the Father, and that they are ashamed of Jesus the Son of God and of His words. Furthermore, they are spitting upon the graves of all the Protestant martyrs who died for the very truths that these men are apparently ashamed of. The Triune God loves sinners enough to not mince words and to confront their idolatry and show them their need for a Savior. He loves them enough to tell them that they are the sons of the devil and need to experience the grace of adoption through Jesus Christ, the Son of God, so that they may become the sons of God the Father. Jesus does not command His disciples to be baptized in the name of Allah, but in the name of God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. We are to be un-ahamedly identified with this Triune God, no matter what the cost. Wycliffe Bible Translators, it is past time for you to repent of your insubordination to the authority of God's Word. By trying to hide the foolishness of the cross you have taken away the key of knowledge from the Muslim world. You are hiding the power of the gospel from them by catering to their flesh. "If anyone adds to these things, God will add to him the plagues that are written in this book; and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, may God take away his part from the tree of life, from the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book." (Revelation 22:18b-19). The Lord rebuke you!

I feel these changes fail to recognise the Supremacy of God THE Father and HIs unique relationship with His Son and Our Saviour (of the whole world), Jesus Christ. Jesus said "I am THE way, THE truth and THE Life." Note He id say he was A way etc .. this may offend those of other faiths BUT God's truth should never be watered down to avoid offending others. Sorry .. nor should the Bible be diluted in translation either.

All people need the true and complete Bible, the Word of God, not what people think will be more palatable for non-believers. I have donated to Wycliffe for years and my husband even became a Wycliffe Associate recently to provide short-term support to various projects; and I feel betrayed! "Allah" is not a proper interpretation for Yehweh, Jehovah, etc.; also "Father" and "Son" must not be tampered with. The Father offers His eternal Gospel to all; but all must come to Him on His terms, which is through Jesus Christ, the Son. This cannot be changed for anyone anywhere, and it doesn't need to be: the Father is able to draw unto Himself those who will hear what the Spirit is saying to the churches, whether it is popular or culturally accepted or not. Our job is to provide an accurate rendering of God's Word. I pray Wycliffe will admit to this error and change policy. Meanwhile I will be sending my financial help elsewhere.

I believe Wycliff is commiting a Cardinal sin by doing this, and if Christians do not start standing up for God, then the world will take over and Chirstians will be persecuted like they were in the past.

I have been working in Muslim countries since 1995. The issue of translating "Father", "Son" and "Son of God" is extremely important, as it bears on the foundations of Who God is, and the reality of the Triune Godhead. Along with the C5 movement, the issue of translation that is overly-contextualized for Muslims, is generally destructive to the Great Commission. Early Christians were persecuted for proclaiming "Jesus is Lord" in the Roman world where "Caesar is Lord" was required. Inappropriate translation of Biblical terminology and encouraging Muslims to remain Muslim and follow Jesus is confusing and ultimately leaves our Muslim friends without the true Christ.

Using Young's Literal Translation I find the use of "Son of God" and "God's Son" interchangeable when referring to Jesus. To claim otherwise I believe to be an error of apostasy.

There is only one God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. There is no other God!!!!!

I have studied several languages and understand that translation work can be challenging, but simple common sense tells me that "son" is not essentially the same thing as "messiah." Come on. (also Rev 22:19).

I'm passionate about Biblical integrity, and about not leading anyone (including Muslims) into a false Gospel message, even with "good" intentions of not offending them. The Gospel message IS offensive!!

I respect these organizations' intent to make the Gospel clear to Muslims, and to not sacrifice the familial relationship of Father and Son. However, I think they are sacrificing that relationship and respecting the Koran too much. The following quote bothers me: "SIL’s Scripture translation practice is to use wording which accurately communicates to the intended audience". In Bible translation "intended audience" should never be a factor. It should be as direct and accurate of a translation from the original text as possible. Lastly, Muslims will certainly use these translations to claim that men have changed the Bible. Let's not give fuel to their false claim!

"All Scripture is inspired by God...so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work...Preach the Word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage--with great patience and careful instruction. . "For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. I affirm that that "All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness", and that the scriptures 'bear witness to Christ', whom they reveal as the "Son of God', and through whom we come to the "Father": I deny that any change is necessary or efficacious to make scripture more useful, and deny that the substituted terms are synonymous with the revealed titles of God. I affirm that the "Word of God is living and active, sharper than a two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart," "the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing", and "a stumbling block to the Jews and foolishness to the Gentiles": I deny that the Gospel can be made inoffensive (except to those "who are being saved", to whom it is "the power of God") and still remain the Gospel of Christ. I fear lest (by these revisions) you "should preach... a gospel other than the one [Paul] preached," thereby falling under the condemnation which he pronounced and leading others astray.

To remove these terms from the Bible is altering what God himself required. How dare mortal man on the most flimsy excuse tamper with the inspired word. Heaven and Earth may pass away but my words will never pass away.

SIL listen and look at this petition and who has signed it: Carlos Madrigal, George Houssney, George Bristow and Roger Dixon. What in heavens name are you thinking? This is going to throw a wrecker ball into your organisation, and those of us who are associates with you, it is going to split missions and create confusion for everyones donor base. My advice is to create an independent commission of a cross section of missions and scholars and then as humbly as you can "see the light" and do whatever politically you have to do internally to put his right. I think it's absurd that Wycliffe, Frontiers & SIL feel it necessary to change the scriptures which have been passed down for thousands of years, to tickle the eyes of some Muslims. I am a youth pastor in Dudley, UK and am training as an evangelist with the Billy Graham Association. I have studied at a bible college for 2 years, and wish to confront this effort to change the words "Son of God" and "Father" in some Bible translations. To miss Jesus as the "Son of God" is to miss something of who Jesus is; likewise, to miss God as our heavenly "Father" is to miss something of the intrinsic nature of God. It is the complete Gospel of Jesus Christ which is the hope for the nations, and to dilute this truth at fear of offending is heresy and lunacy. I am disappointed at the Christian agencies involved and strongly urge them to turn from this initiative and not be ashamed of our Father or our Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God. 1 John 2v23 "No one who denies the Son has the Father. Whoever confesses the Son has the Father also." (ESV) Let us not deny the Son, nor the Father!

The whole Bible can be offensive in some way or another to someone because we live in a fallen world but it is God's truth.

The bible says "If our gospel is hidden, it is hidden o them that are lost" (2 Cor. 4:3) The word of God stands sure and I believe no man should attempt to tamper with it. We do not preach the gospel that it might sound "nice" to a particular group or sect. I believe the integrity of God's word should be preserved without fear or respect of persons. If this transalation is allowed, it does nothing but rubber-stamp muslims' long-held erroneous belief that christians tamper with the scriptures. Hope SIL and all involved will see the folly in what they're doing and repent soon. Perhaps anyone from this organisation I leave SIL with Gal. 1:10 (Am I now trying to win the approval of men, or of God? Or am I trying to please men? If I were still trying to please men, I would not be a servant of Christ.)

I am a trained and active Linguist / Bible Translator with an MA from a SIL program. We use an SIL consultant in our program, and have no plans to stop, as I believe this issue does not negate the fact that SIL is full of godly people working to do His will, many of whom would also disagree with this particular policy. I think SIL's policy as stated on their website is well-intentioned but nonetheless incorrect. This is as much an issue of theology as it is linguistics. I understand that SIL is taking a deeper look at the issue, and I commend them for doing so.

The uniqueness of our faith is the privilege of having a Father - son relationship with God. God is the Father, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ and our Father too. Jesus is the Son of God, the pattern son and we are likewise God's sons and daughters. If these truths are expunged from the scriptures then Christianity will become a mere religion. Thank you. The Word of God has offended thousands upon thousand of people over the centuries. Now is no exception. We cannot change the Scripture to conform to any culture. The Bible itself says that Jesus was a stone of stumbling to the Jews because they refused to accept His claims, but salvation to all who would believe in Him. The key to reaching those in the Muslim world is not to change the Bible to make it more acceptable, it is rather to pray that the eyes of their hearts would be opened, that they would know God as their heavenly Father and Jesus Christ, His SON, whom He sent.

There can't be anything more important than the Word of God. It is totally, completely unacceptable that anyone should dare change any of it. Why are we changing the Bible, this is not what God hasd instrcted us to do, the Word is not made to make people feel comfortable or not offend, but to tell the truth if the world is offended by the truth so be it, it should not be changed. 1. We don't have the right to change the scriptures as transmitted by God to the writers. 2. There are theological implications to the Father/Son relationship. ie. The human father/son relationship is a dim imitation of the heavenly one, just as the husband/wife relationship represents Christ and the church. 3. The Muslim position on this issue is contrived and taught by the Imams as a means to discredit the Bible. They can always point out that the original Greek used the terms "Father" and "Son" and that translators changed the text so as not to be embarrassed.

Truth is not truth if the meaning is changed

Personally I don't agree to change the words from you suggested. If you change you give the possibility to the Muslim people to critisze the Christians that they change always the Bible. Until know millions and millions of Muslims came to Christ and understud the Bible as it was until now. I'm signing this because I as a Christian do no call God Allah -- Allah is Not God who will judge the living and the dead but is merciful and just. When I think of Allah of a god of hate, murder and anti-Christian. Using this in the place of God is seriously wrong. Discernment is needed!

To make basic changes to the Biblical text shows a lack of reverence to the Divine Author. Whoever does this has no right to call himself a translator!

Because it is important not to alter scripture not the images it is trying to portray. If we do it here, it leaves the Bible wide open to claims of doctoring it in the future. We need to show Jesus as the Son of God having his nature and being God. We need to see a God who is relational too.

To keep Father and Son out of the Bible you make contradictions, and destroy the foundation of the promise of Salvation, and Christ's work.

Christ at times said stuff that was hard to accept or even offensive to those around him. His word was still the truth and needs to be proclaimed as he said it.

I belive that we should not tamper and change the Bible to suit men. Calling God Father and Jesus as the Son of God is central to our faith as Christians.

It's not the Muslims holy book so they do not need to read it if they are offended but it far more likely this is some western liberal do gooders work,someone who has little knowledge of the Muslim faith I shouldn't wonder.

This is not an example of cultural sensitivity. It is assimilation by the religion of Islam. Muslims know what a Father & son mean. That is a good enough start. They also know what Allah means. What Allah means and the Christian concept of Father means are very different.

How stupid is it to change the CHRISTIAN Bible because it offends.....Muslims?! HELLO!?! We want to see Muslims become Christian, not the other way around! The Holy Bible tells us Jesus was the Son of God. In Luke 1:59 the angel tells Mary that the Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God. Jesus spoke of Himself as the Son of God and that the only way to the Father is through Him. God himself has called himself our Father. God himself called Christ his son.

The Trinity is a dogma and I believe Jesus christ is the son of God, and divine himself. and we are sons of God. Those translations alterate the real meaning of Jesus sacrifice and our real identity.

Accurately translating God's Word should be of the highest priority; regardless of whether it offends other religions or not.

That Wycliffe bible has changed the meaning of what The Word of God says in Mattityahu (Mathew) 28:19, thus creating yet another translation error in a bible.

I do not approve diluting the origins. The translation itself will hide the original meaning, which is harmful--in effect, a sin of omission--to the full embodiment of the message of Christ.

I work with Muslims and they need to know what the Word says. 2 Corinthians 4:1-6 should be our model. On top of that, Muslims lose all respect for you if you're actually willing to change God's Word, so it's a lose-lose.

The Salvation is possible only if someone believe that Jesus is the Son of God (John 3:16 and 3:18 and 3:36), if it is not written, noone could be saved.

I'm signing the petition because it's not an option for today's translators to preserve what the Holy Spirit inspired to the human authors of the Scriptures. I've been supporting Wycliffe & I love what they're doing to get the Bible into the hands of people who don't have one BUT it's important that when we do that, we keep the Gospel and the nature of God and His attributes clear to those we are trying to reach. It is not acceptable to present the Gospel of God in such a way that it becomes acceptable to those of other religions to see the God of Christianity no different from the gods in their religions or to just ignore the fact that Jesus is the Son of God and to tack Jesus on to their religion as another great man to learn from,.

The true word of God MUST be preserved in its complete integrity, not corrupted by heresy.

I have always appreciated the work of faithful men and women to translate God's Word into native languages, but to make it less accurate for the excuse of making it more palatable is the worst kind of pragmatism and contextualization. This greatly impacts many aspects of the reader's understanding, giving them an inaccurate view of God and the life-changing sacrifice of his Son on the cross. The Word of God is offensive to all unbelievers until they are given the ability to see and understand truth through the power of God's Spirit. The Bible is the true Word of God. To change it in any way is to make it untrue.

I am signing this petition because there is never a good reason to tamper with the infallible inspired Word of God. This is very serious. To do so is to risk incurring the wrath of God (Rev. 22:18). As a pastor I will actively direct my people to support other missions and bible translation efforts that do not compromise the integrity of the Word of God in this way. I am struck by the Turkish pastors who have expressed here how this manipulation of the text plays exactly into the lies of Islamic teaching about the Christian bible! Surely someone in SIL, Wycliffe or Frontiers has the courage and wisdom to take a stand on this vital issue for the sake of our brothers in the Middle East and beyond.

To preserve the true meaning of the bible and prevent distortion of its message for the sake of pleasing those in other religions.

When my Muslim friends read the Bible, they want to find -as close as possible- what is in the ORIGINAL text, NOT a confirmation of their ingrained suspicion that Christians have CHANGED their holy book and need to resort to "camouflage" and deception to be able to attract adherents from Muslim societies.

We do not agree with changing the word of God. It is a sacred word written by God himself.

I was stunned to learn of this two weeks ago and continue to grow more saddened by the idealogy behind such changes.

Tampering with God's perfect revelation of His own trinitarian nature through the Scriptures is fatal to the hopes of leading Muslims to truly believe in Jesus Christ.

We need to teach Muslims the truth of Jesus as the eternal Son of God rather than hide it from them. Trust God with their conversion and give Him the glory!

Right now people are being killed because someone burned what Muslams consider the word of Alaih. John 1:1 It is one thing to translate a word into a word or phrase so another language can understand the origanal meaning. It is another thing entirely to change the meaning of a word. Every people group of this earth has a word for father and for son. You do not have permission to change the meaning of a word. You are only to translate the word so the Scriptures reach every people group in the world. It is not up to you that the Scripture is accepted by the people group. You are only to provide the Scripture to the people group. God the Father of Jesus The Christ will handle the rest.

The Word of God should change us, it should not be changed by us. God has spoken and revealed himself as Father and Jesus as His Son. We should not question His reasons for doing so.

This practice weakens (destroys) the gospel and is an attempt to spread the gospel through deception. Contextualization should not be distortion.

The Bible needs to be kept pure, and God does not change, even if humans want to change him to be "better digested". With God's grace, translators need to be very careful and fully understand every facet of the language they are using.

God does not compromise His name for anything nor anyone because He is above all. For TRUE Christians to do so would be to deny our LORD and Savior.

To take Father and Son out is the wrong thing to do and is without any basis. In addition there are other scriptural witnesses that prove that the words Father and Son have always been correct. The idea of trying to be socially acceptable is incorrect.

As a former Muslim, I am concern that Wycliffe, Frontiers and SIL could go to the extend of removing such important words like Father, Son of God and Son from the Bible. In any cased I Sign to this Petition that no such changes be allowed. However in the case that Wycliffe, Frontiers, SIL and all the other 17 groups who are part of this are only intending to Translate and bring the Gospel more clearly to the Language and understanding of the Arabs so that they are reach, then in that case I ask for prayers from all Christians that they mare do a good job. My personal experience on sharing the Gospel with the Muslims, shows that their problem is not necessarily the work Father, Son of God or Son, but rather how this is understood from their perspective. Thus the issue is not just the Bible but more seriously the Doctrine of Islam. It would not matter in my view the kind of Bible translation we as Christians may come up with, The problem of Islam as a Religion whose Doctrine speak against its adheres having any thing else than the Qur'an, its Teaching and Islamic scriptures will still not be solve. So I suggest that Wycliffe, Frontiers, SIL and all the others, putt their focus on showing to the Muslims how much insufficient the message of the Qur'an and Islamic Scriptures are for the salvation of Man and rather not go ahead with changing such important terms from the most true Scriptures [The Bible]. The massage of the Bible as we have it today has brought many of us out of Islam and Today we are serving the Lord, As a Muslim Convert, I believe that we Christians can prove that there is no salvation in the Qur'an, it message or teaching. We only need to be loving, bold and strong.

I personally find it risky to twist the meaning of God's Word for whatever reason. You at Wycliff, SIL and Frontier must remember Hebrews 10:31 and Revelation 22:18, 19. Be careful not to put yourself under the Lord's jugement. I encourage you to immediately engage yourselves and your organisations in writting to stop producing and distributing these dangerous translations. Don't stay on your mistake (Jeremiah 8:4)! I have been living in Turkey for 5 years serving at a church and it is not too hard for Muslims to understand that God is a father. I've been disturbed about these translations for years. I could not find a Persian Bible that didn't use Allah for God instead of just printing what is really there YHWH.

The terms “Son” or “Son of God” were introduced by God himself in the birth and baptismal narratives (Luke 1:32–35; Matthew 3:17]; on the mount of Transfiguration [Matthew 17:15]; in Peter’s confession of faith [Matthew 16:16] and were a specific identity marker of those who would form the new community [John 20:31). “Father" was the only way in which Jesus addressed God in prayer apart from when he was on the cross. It was his instruction on the way in which his disciples should also address God (Matthew 6:9). It may be inconvenient to some ears but do we have the right to play with it? In Hindu evangelism that community inevitably objects to Jesus’ teaching in John 14:6 that clearly states there is only one way to God. This cuts right across Hindu theology. But surely no one would suggest we need to reinterpret and re-translate John 14 6 as well.

We believe this is foundational to the gospel.

It is important to remain true to the original Biblical Languages: Hebrew & Greek. No compromise should be made with evil in any form. `In the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit´ is in the original Greek as inspired by the Holy Spirit.

Watering down the Scriptures to get numbers is pragmatism. This is incredibly un-Godly! The truths of the Bible are an offense to the unbeliever. I have been a member of Wycliffe since 1983. These are loving, dedicated, hard-working people who long to see quality Bible translations in every language that needs one. Over the years there have been many testimonies of people who have come to understand the gospel because they were finally able to read or hear it in their own language. Biblical Missiology recognizes this and has publicly affirmed SIL and Wycliffe for their fine work over the years. But an unfaithful translation practice has crept in and needs correcting. That is what this petition is about. Among other things it is important to listen to native speakers who have stated that the words for “son” and “father” have the correct meanings in Arabic (and other languages) to translate the Greek words for those terms. It is also crucial to recognize that the term “Son of God” inherently means that Jesus is God (according to both the biblical record and present day understanding of the term by the people groups who are receiving these translations) and to stop using substitute terms that do not have this meaning. Instead, we need to return to accurate translations of these terms that keep the meaning as God intended it and as the original audience understood it.

Paul wrote that the gospel is an offense to the Jews and foolishness to the Greeks. Jesus was rejected by His own. Is it any surprise that people reject the Word of God, both the Son and the inspired written Word? Nothing should be changed to make the gospel palatable.

The Biblical teaching about God and Jesus is a blessing, not a problem.

The word of God is just that... The word of GOD... I'm fairly certain He knew what He was doing when he had history recorded and there is no need to change it. The scriptures are inerrant, and there is no need to alter truth.

I work with Muslims from Iran and Morocco hear in Torino, and while these concepts are difficult to accept initially, so was salvation by grace instead of works for me, and so is the concept of heaven and hell for a person raised atheist in Albania or China. Believers need to submit their ideas to God's truths rather than change God's truths to accommodate the lies of other religions or beliefs. God revealed Himself in His word as "Father" and "Son" and we dare not modify these terms to suit depraved humanity's tastes or desire not to offend.

I think it is extremely dangerous to tamper with the Scriptures. Please note the warning from the book of Revelation. Rev. 22:18 ¶ I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this scroll:a If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to that person the plagues described in this scroll. This is nothing short of heresy. As a missionary, I completely understand the whole contextualization issue. Ironically, Christians have been accused for centuries by Muslims of changing the word of God to say what we want it to say. If we use these type of translations, we will have to confess that indeed we have changed the word of God. I have been successfully using the term "Son of God" for years here. It merely requires some teaching to understand what the Scriptures are teaching by using that term. Jesus used it of Himself. Can we do less?

The Father-Son relationship between God the Father and Jesus the Son is at the center of the Christian faith, by removing it you are creating a whole new religion that has nothing to do with the One True Living God. The Word of God is able to stand on its own. When we mess with it, we take away the power of the written Word of God. Instead of bringing people to repentance, this will cause confusion. Revelation warns us in chapter 22 about "adding" or "taking away" words from that book of the Bible. It can be no less serious when we add or take away from any part of the Word of God. Who is man that we should tamper with the living Word of God? Our persecuted brothers and sisters in these sensitive countries lay their lives on the line daily for Christ, the Son of the living God.

I work amongst Muslims bringing the love of Christ and His Word into their lives. The context of God as Father is very important to Muslims as they do not know Him as Father, I explain Son to be used in the Bible as the "son" is used in the Qur'an - i.e. the son of the road = the one who uses the road, Son of God = the One who is of the same essensce as the Father. They have no trouble with this. Please don't water down the Truth because of a fear of offending others. The gospel is offensive yet the Holy Spirit uses it to explain its truth and speaks to hearts of these cultures.

Removing the familial terms does violence too the plain intended meaning of the Greek and Hebrew terms in countless texts like Abraham offering Isaac. The word has been God-breathed to his people and they have written what they've heard from God. It was perfect and it should stay that way. If you rewrite the word then it will no longer be God-breathed but "man-breathed" and then we will be following the ideas of man, not of God.

I'm a firm believer that what the Muslim culture is missing is Fathers and Sons. All they know are servants and masters. To take "Father and Son" out of the bible is to rob them of the truth and the very thing they need. We shouldn't be tricking them into Christianity by "speaking their language." God is big enough and loves them enough to call them into relationship with Him and when they get there, they should have access to truth not culture misconception.

My first encounters with the work of Wycliffe/SIL were at John Brown University, a school with a strong history of mission support in general and a historical connection with the early days of SIL. I enrolled as a Bible major and came to appreciate the beauty of the Greek language as well as the passion of those who commit their lives to the work of translation. A change of heart and a change of major and now I'm looking back on twenty years as a physician charged with interpreting and translating scientific data for my patients. Simply put, in life and in medicine "the truth will set you free". With physical life and death the truth is sometimes hard to hear and harder to understand. Spiritually, the same is true. Bluntly, in either case, you can't just make stuff up.

It is heretical to change the Word of God and those who do will be under severe judgment. Please reconsider your decision to change God's Holy Word in an human effort to reach Muslims. God does not need that kind of help.

Jesus being God, God's Son, is the most basic fact, the rock that all of Christianity and salvation is built on. If Jesus is not God then everything else in the Bible is worthless and all of the things Christians, especially those persecuted, suffer are in vain.

God chose to write the Bible and represent Himself using the terms Father and Son. It is not up to us to change it to make it more appealing to the masses. The first compromise happens in the vocabulary, then in the teachings. This is a slippery slope and it is one that should not be tread. We are not gods, and we do not know better than God. What He wrote needs to remain so that His purposes may be accomplished. We cannot compromise His word to address our concerns.

The more I thought about Jesus being "The Son of God", the more it became so important! Without Jesus being the Son of God, He could not have died for our sins as the spotless Lamb of God. Because He is the Son of God, He carries the characteristics and power given to Him by God. When God verbally spoke His blessing on Jesus He said: "You are My beloved Son; in You I am well pleased", Luke 3:22b and "This is My beloved Son. Hear Him!" Luke 9:35b. If Father, Son and Son of God are removed, the Word of God would no longer be presented, for what God has spoken would be changed (though it would still stand). The whole Bible (including these Names given by God) needs to be given to all the people of the world! John wrote: “And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.” 1 John 5:11-12 John made it so clear that to have eternal life one must have the Son of God. This is for all people, Muslims included!

By replacing "God", "LORD", "Father" etc with "Allah" this perverted version of the Bible gives the impression that Allah is the same person as YAHWEH (Jehovah) which is totally untrue. No Muslim would dare say "Jehovah is the only God and Mohammed is his prophet." Allah is called by the Koran "The Great Deceiver" and is, therefore, another name for Satan. There are many other reasons, but indsufficient space to list them. Wycliffe will lose a lot of funding if this project goes ahead.

Isn't there a scripture about changing one jot or tittle? I would say these changes go far beyond that and actually deny who Christ is in the trinity and strip scripture of its true meaning and power.

1) If we stop believing Jesus Christ as the Son of God and as God Himself (beside of God the Father and God The Holy Spirit), than our believe is idle and we are in essence without the Living Hope (Hebr 11:1). 2) If we agree to this translations why should we hold to all other translations in all languages? In other words: why not re-write the Bible?. Than, we would not have any difficult discussions in the western world either. O God, our heavenly Father, May the witness that You have given us eternal life in Your Son, prevail in the hearts and minds of Your servants. May the work of translating Your Word go forth to reach the unreached masses. Endow those who are mistranslating Your Word, with grace that leads them to repentance. Give the Church, Your body the unity of the Spirit, and the bond of peace under the headship of Christ. May we all persevere in serving the gospel without shrinking back or shying away from the Truth. Through Jesus Christ our Lord, the Son of the Living God. Amen.

I am very disappointed in Wycliffe and SIL for their failure to uphold integrity of translation and the truth revealed to us in Scripture.

Muslims already question the legitimacy of the Bible, saying that men have changed it from the original scripture. While translating scripture into other languages undoubtably requires some linguistic adaptation, every effort shoud be made to maintain a literal word-for-word equivalent to the original languages. The terms Father, Son, and Holy Spirit were terms that were no doubt "offensive" when Jesus used them / to the audiences to whom Jesus spoke. They should be preserved just as Jesus used them. The Bible should communicate what Jesus said, not what the listener wants to hear / might find more appealing.

Scripture is God breathed, and it warns us against this very danger.

I have had to deal with this personally in outreach to North Africans. It is translators trying to be evangelists instead of leaving the explanation to the work of evangelism. As one of these document notes, reading Luke 1:34-35 clearly shows Muslims that the Biblical term "Son of God" does not imply God having sexual relations with Mary. This is understood by any Muslim who reads it with a willingness to see what it says. Someone has to speak up and make this known the Christian body around the world.

I'm concerned by compromise on the basic Christian theology that is cropping in to these Bible translations.

I agree that it is critical to maintain what God is communicating in the Bible. There are many issues that must be expained and taught for various issues (cultural, historical, etc.). Why should first order theology be sarificed? We should rely on God and not man's methods.

I believe this is compromising the text of the Word of God, the foundation of our Christian faith and in direct conflict with the warnings of the Lord in Revelation 22:17-18.

To edit the true meaning of the words in the Bible is a grave mistake. The Word of God should not be tampered with for the fear of men.

As a Christian and former supporter, I am appalled that Wycliffe would do this. It beaks my heart that a ministry blessed so abundantly in translating God's Word would alter it when the Bible says absolutely do NOT alter it! One way I know to lose the blessing and grace of God on a ministry is to change His Word and these are no small changes involved. It is my prayer for Wycliffe and all involved to repent, turn back to the Word of Truth as God gave it, and replaces all the wrong translations. This is very different from using some analogy for people who have never seen snow. My prayers are with Wycliffe, their translators, and their Board.

God's Word should be explained, not watered down to make it more palatable. Listen to those who work there.

I am greatly disturbed that what I had thought was a trusted Bible translation organization would tamper with the Word of God in this way. This is not just contextualization ... the characterization of God, the father, and Jesus and also their relationship is changed. I work in ministry to Muslims in Dearborn and we teach them using the true words God has chosen to describe himself. We simply explain that we are not talking about sexual relations ... in fact, we stress that Jesus was not even created ... He was in the beginning with God!

Our church (which is predominately European in background) works with Arabic speaking Christians, recent immigrants from South Sudan and is reaching out to Arabic speaking Muslims. I do not see how this approach to translation would assist or support our ministry to these groups of people. The familial terminology of the NT is not only very important missiologically, it is vital to the work of spiritual care. Indeed, God is the ultimate "trustworthy other" who epitomizes the very concept of fatherhood (Eph 4:14-21) and whose fatherly presence is a source of comfort to those who suffer. Indeed, in the work of spiritual care, the sense of imminence which is experienced when we think of God as Father sets the Christian faith apart from other faiths. Similarly, the use of "Son" language to refer to Christ is more than simply a rhetorical device as it furthers our understanding of Christ's identification with us in our humanity (Immanuel). When we consider that 1 John repeatedly emphasizes that those who believe in Christ are "children of God" invites us to reflect on the spiritual spiritual care implications of thinking of Jesus as "Son of God." Viewed from this perspective Jesus obedience to the Father's will, his resistance to temptation, etc.. helps the believer find the strength to be a faithful child of God. Thus, missiologically and pastorally the familial language of the NT is very important for those who are Christians.

Because changing the Word of God to reflect any other purposes other than the true representation of it in which the Father sent His Son to redeem sinful man, is blasphemous! I am shocked to think that an orgaization like Wycliffe would even ponder this change. Further, if this change is made it will be the last bit of information from this organization I will use or trust again, along with the people I represent! I don't think that following in the footsteps of the late John Wycliffe and causing further schism and division in Christianity is a good idea. Changing the names 'Father' and 'Son' to appeal to Muslims is changing Christ's own words. This is the way God wants to be described. As a Christian, I cannot even begin to express how much this editing offends me. This would equate to me asking for the Koran to be edited because, "I find the translation offensive."

Jesus, the spotless Lamb of God - the Son of God - was the only One worthy to take our place, bearing God's judgment to take away the sins of the world! (John 1:29.) The Bible should not be changed in meaning. Translation should be taken from the orginal language and translated into the dialect of the intended in their own language but otherwise not altered.

We need to protect the message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It is a slippery slope to attempt to make the Trinity more "Muslim friendly." Yes, the Trinity is not an easy concept to wrap one's head around -- as a mature Christian I am still in awe of the nature of God and the relationship between God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. That said, any attempt to "tickle the ears" of the reader is not necessary for conversion. If you change the inspired Word of God you change the truth. I did two semesters of Summer Institute of Linguistics. I did not join Wycliffe, but studied 10 languages and went on to teach English for 5 years in China and the Middle East. The Word is God inspired...don't change it.

ummmm, Jesus is the Gospel! His Incarnation, Death, Resurrection is what we want unbelievers to understand and put their trust in. Corruption of the infalible Word of GOD

Changing God's Word is the Number One reason that Muslims give for not believing in the Bible. But if we change it now by omitting these words we will not be able to say that we or nobody has changed God's Word. These are critical words to the whole theme of who God is. There is nothing that we can do to make them or not make them read the Bible. The Holy Spirit has been able to bring thousands to himself in the past.

Because I find it disturbing that people who declare themsleves Christians feel justified in making the Gospel message "politically correct" when clearly our Lord Jesus Christ, quite unashamedly called God his Father in public, even when he was fully aware that people wanted to kill him for such a statement. Surely this is paving the way for a whole variety of different Bibles, each with alterations that will suit the religions we want to reach. Such a prospect is terrifying!!

I had been missionary to Muslims for many years as a former Muslim from Turkey. Bible as it has always been offensive to Muslims and nothing should change that. On certain things contextualization is a good thing and it is necessary however, contextualization has its limits. Especially when it hits theological and biblical barriers. My greater concern this movement seems to be "appeasing" or "pleasing" certain religious groups i.e. Muslims and removing offensiveness from the Scripture under the umbrella of contextualization. It is neither Biblical nor healthy to remove from crucial words from the Scriptures. This is an earthly & selfish decision. It will only help produce a generation of theologically and experientially immature believers. Is that what you want in the long term? Without clash of worldviews there is no growth and maturity! That's the bottom line. "But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast and be false to the truth. This is not the wisdom that comes down from above, but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic. For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every vile practice" James 3:14-16

Without Jesus as the Son, we have no salvation and the Muslims nead salvation to be free and to find peace.

This "translation" is a butchering of God's Word. To change the bible is something God detests and is a sin worthy of hell.

If this translation denies the one true triune God, then it is not only a disgrace to the Christian Faith, but is heretical. If someone's offended that Jesus is the Son of the Father, so be it. If we deny the deity of Jesus, we deny our own salvation through Him.

I resent the name of JESUS being taken out of their translations. The Muslim Messiah is not the same person as our "Jesus the Messiah, who has already come", nor the Messiah the Jews are still, unfortunately, looking for. John in Revelation warns "everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book, If anyone add to them, God will add to him the plagues which are written in this book, and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away his part from the tree of life and from the holy city, which are written in this book." (Revelation 22:18-19). It is a very serious thing to tamper with God's Holy Word.

I think it is very shameful what these organizations are doing to the inerrant Word of God. The Father and Son relationship is crucial to a correct understanding of salvation. How is the parable of the Prodigal Son going to make sense if not seen in the context of our own relationship with God. I pray that God will change the hearts of the supporters of this contextualization and will bring them to a trust that God can and will save people and that the Gospel does not need to be made more palatable for Muslims.

Truther is more important than political correctnes, whether for Muslims, Westerners or anyone else.

Many things might be deemed offensive in the gospel message, but this would be no excuse to omit the truth that produces faith and spiritual life. God hs revealed who He is for a reason. We aren't free to change it to make it somehow more acceptible in our view!

No reason is valid for misinterpreting the Word of God. Arab speaking believers have had the Bible in their language for years - doing such 'translations' could only cause damage. The Father sent the Son to be the savior of the world

Think it is very important, that we keep the Bible as it is.

Because to remove "Son" and "Father" would be to remove something that is vital, irreplaceable and watering down essential Biblical truth.

We are to speak the truth of God with love - whatever Muslims think, we believe in a Holy Trinity which includes a Father God (whom we are told to address as Abba), Jesus Christ the only, begotten Son of God and the Holy Spirit. God is revealing himself to Muslims worldwide (we have 200 Farsai believers in our church in Calgary) and He is doing it mainly through visions of His Son, Jesus Christ. Don't tamper with God's word - your organization has worked long and hard over the years to preserve it. Don't lose it now by your own hands.

God's Word is offensive to those who don't believe. We should not be ashamed of His Word and change it because God warns us against that!

Sad abuse and misuse of Scripture

God's word as written in the original ancient languages is completely true and without error and must be accurately translated into other languages so that all people can find salvation in the Lord Jesus Christ. The penalty for anyone who does this are severe as made clear by God in Revelation 22:18-19. I am not surprised, however, that you are tampering with the scriptures to make them less offensive, because this is what God has prophesied will happen in the last days when people will "not put up with sound doctrine".

As soon as the Bible is tampered with, it not only damages the message, (Rev 22:18,19) but it gives the world a valid reason NOT to Trust the Bible and turns it into another 'holy book' written by men.

I am a translator and think that it is important to be faithful to the original texts of the Bible, as much as possible.

I lived in Indonesia for eight years. This cuts right to the heart of the issue. When a muslim realizes that in Christ he receives the adoption to sonship, this is a wonderful thing. Eliminating "offensive" terms is only appeasement and accommodation and will never help the cause of Christ. "“Who is a liar but he that denies that Jesus is the Christ? Tired of compromise

We must keep these concepts in the bible as that is what makes the bible so different. Their is a loving relationship not a distant fearful relationship.

Becausethe fact of the Trinity is basic to Christian belief and the translations of the Bible should make it very clear that Jesus is both God and Son of God. Having lived most of my life in the Middle East, I know Christianity will always offend Muslims. But these Truths are vitally important if they are to know the living God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

It is only the incorruptible word of God that truly bears fruit in people (1 Pet. 1:23). By changing the purity of the Word you will change the purity of the fruit. It is shameful to change the words of the one who bought us for any reason.

I'm convinced that the removal of the concepts Son of God and Father from the Bible translation is an adulteration of Scripture and distorts the Person of Christ and the Triune God. Such a translation cannot be said to be the Bible in the first place except that it becomes nothing but a Christianized Koran. What these translators are doing is to question the revelation of God's word by appealing to false and deceptive views of contextualization which is not contextualization but a rewriting of the Bible in the manner that will suit erroneous Islamic and Koranic worldviews and theology. This is not a compromise but a departure from biblical Christianity and is something we should mourn about as Christians and Bible teachers.

I think Wycliffe has gone too far in making changes in the Bible. One example from old, speaking of the "Seal" of God instead of the Lamb of God. I understand their reasoning, that Eskimos don't know lamb, but I think it's quite easy to explain, put a picture, add a note... What happens to the characteristics of the lamb, what was portrayed in Jesus? A counter-example: I'm form Central Europe and when I was a child, i never understood, how could people go up to the roof, when they let the lame men down through the ceiling to be healed by Jesus. Then I went to Croatia, and saw that the houses didn't have steep roofs, they were flat, or later on, I also read that in Israel, people actually spent a lot of the time on their flat roofs... so no problem in climbing up there. It was only "weird" to me who was used to different type of houses... But I don't think they should alter the story in the Bible to adjust to Central European culture/architecture. And there are many more examples like this lamb/seal one that I don't agree with. The present issue (concerning the Son and Father) is just too much I think.

I have been in the ministry for 42 years, of which 34 years have been in the pastorate, and I am appalled at such vile manipulation of languages in order to man. To change any of the Word of God from what it truly says in the original language is directly against the Scripture. When did God change His mind about how to reach people that "all might be saved?" Faith is not about diplomacy, it is about believing in the true word of God and the trinity. People need to hear these words to appreciate the intimate relationship that is available through God the Father, Christ the Son, and their relationship with the Holy Spirit. The Bible says if the Bible is offensive it is only offensive to those who are perishing. I believe that says it all. I am not concerned with making the Bible less offensive to any group or special interest, and especially not to any non Christian group who openly state that anyone not of their faith tenets are enemies that deserve to be exterminated. Jesus said he was returning to 'my Father and your Faher,my God and your God'. I am an America missionary working in East Africa. it is my experience that Muslims think of Christians as weak toward their faith. When we witness to Muslims we must be confident and strong in our belief not weak and seeker friendly. Let's stand for TRUTH or not stand at all.

I am however still wondering whether a more positive protest (considering the latin original of the word, i.e. pro testare) could be added to the petition as a loving gesture and encouragement to those who have already resigned to reconsider their decision. What a victory the arch enemy would have achieved if hundreds of Bible translation projects would be halted or stifled through this obvious mistake. I would love to see my signature as also a token of love and concern for the embattled leaders of the agencies in stead of merely joining an attack on them. What good is a translation of the bible to reach people if the Gospel it presents isn't the TRUTH? You may get converts in your eyes, but I don't think they are converts in God's eyes, and his judgment is the one that counts.

I have been a supporter of Wycliffe/SIL missionaries for decades. One couple (MKs of another retired WBT couple) have resigned. It is sad when such faithful people who have given their lives to Bible translation can no longer participate because of the poor theological decisions of Wycliffe/SIL. God's holy Word is inspired and inerrant in its original languages. When we deviate from translating as close to those languages as possible for the sake of political correctness (or any other reason), we have erred indeed.

This new "translation" is obviously not a faithful translation. Since the Wescott & Hort revised text of 1881 the written word has been progressively mutilated beyond recognition as was the Living Word at the conclusion of His ministry. This present scandal is simply one further step in the mutilation process.

I have seen what compromise does to a Christian body, it permits corruption. Compromise on the names and true relationship of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit can only result in a corruption of the Gospel. I have worked among Muslim background peoples for 20 years and the move to remove Father, Son, and Holy Spirit from these translations beyond being unfaithful to the text is a huge hindrance to the work.

I am very concerned that by seeking to remove the 'offense' of the gospel we are in fact hidding salvation from the very ones we want to bring to the Father. After I showed him John 10:30 where Jesus says “I and my Father are one.” And showed him John 10:31-33 Where the Jews picked up stones to stone Jesus cause Jesus clearing made an exclusive claim to being God, and the Jews thought he committed blasphemy. After I explained this to him, he listened to all I said, wants to go to church with me, let me pray for him in Jesus’s name, and is borrowing a copy of “More Than a Carpenter” which has a chapter of more claims of Divinity by Jesus. Of course I could speak on, and on. But let’s have God conclude the matter (Afterall, God can’t lie. As a Catholic, I'll take a shot at this from our angle. Among the many problems with this translation, the sacrament of baptism is fundamentally invalid if not pronounced in the Trinitarian formula, as commanded by Our Lord. If we encourage people to baptise, but not "in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit," (cf St. Matthew 28:19) we are not spreading the faith, but lies, and their faith will essentially be in idols. To disregard the Holy Trinity is a very basic and very dangerous heresy, and it can be easily argued that not believing in the mystery of God's three persons makes one not a Christian at all. It is not easy (in fact, it may be quite impossible) to explain such a mystery, but we cannot change how we profess the faith in order to appease idolaters. To do so is to state that we do not trust in the Truth of the Lord to convert those hearts who will be converted. This faulty translation must be amended before it spreads even further error.

Is true that in the interlinear page of this translation, under the Greek puts "Father" and "Son". But in the page of the actaul translation is used "Mevla" and "Vekil" for "Father" and "Son" respectively. "Vekil" means "proxy", "substitute" or "representative", and distort totally the spiritual meaning of "Son". On the other hand,acording to the Hadith al-Qudsi (chapter 35) Allah make himself known as "Father" of the poor people. Which shows that Muslims could accept the spiritual meaning of father. Additionally, what the Koran disapproves is the term "walad" (descendant, offspring) applied to Jesus, "How can you have a child [ولد, waladu] He who has no consort?" (Al Anam 6:101). However, in Sura 2:215 Al-Bacara it may be seen a figurative use of the term "ibn" that is "son" (ابن, ibn), when talking about the 'traveler' as "son [ابن, ibni] of the way "(وابن السبيل). Thus Arab Christians make a clear distinction between the terms Ibnu'llah (الله ابن, "or symbolic spiritual son of Allah") and waladu'llah (الله ولد, this is "kid or offspring of Allah"), applying only the first of these terms to Jesus. Therefore, rather than changing the meaning of the Biblical terms and give reason to those Muslims who accuse Christians on adulterate the Scriptures, why not simply put a footnote to clarify that "Father" does not refer to a biological father and "Son" does not refer to a biological son? You can undo years of ministry by continuing on this road. May God help you to take a faithful stand on this.

Jesus used the term Son of God knowing that it would be misunderstood and that it would have to be explained. Most religious terms have a different definition under Islam than Christianity. Jesus used the term Son of God when He wanted to identify Himself with his deity and son of man when He wanted to identify Himself with his humanity. By changing this term your are changing the meaning of the Bible. Thus upholding the Muslims claim that the Bible has been changed.

As a pastor for 20+ years, I am appalled that Wycliff, Frontiers, or SIL would corrupt the Scriptures to appease men. I have been involved with the London Bridges campaign to get New Testaments into the hands of Muslims, who visit London from all over the Arab world. Just because Muslims have a difficult time with the Trinity, or they are offended by it, is no reason to remove references to the Father or Son from the Bible. This is a huge mistake!

The Church is to be the pillar and ground of the truth. If these publishers hold tha t they have a supportive role to the Church, they have no business changing the Bible, the foundation for doctrine.

Mark 1:1 says "The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the son of God" and this is not pliable to accommodate our society or other cultures - it is the unchanging Word of God and is above human standards.

I am all for making the Gospel accessible to Muslims, but NOT for changing the Word of God. I agree that that removing Son of God is 'a serious mistake of the worst kind' and is in danger of 'damaging gospel witness among Muslims'. If people want to prepare an explanatory paraphrase, that might be helpful. But call it an explanatory paraphrase and not a translation, and footnote the original!

This practice is problematic for several reasons: 1. Allah is not the same as the God of Judaism and Christianity. There is a word for God in Arabic that is not "allah." 2. Unless explained, anyone would be confused about the father/son relationship regardless of the culture. 3. Using the words "Isa the messiah" gives the impression that it is the same person who is in the koran which simply isn't true. 4. Unless muslims understand the whole concept of God's sacrefice they won't be able to accept the gift of salvation.

I'm signing because it's important to me that the God-breathed Scripture remain exactly as God intends it to be. Therefore, excluding Father, Son & Son of God would be sinful!

My Dad, Glen Turner, was a WBT translator in Ecuador. He spent lots of effort and prayer to ensure accuracy in translation. a misleading translation will not prevent persecution and may even aggrivate it, actuallyl becoming a tool of persecution -- i.e. "you can believe in Jesus as Isa the beloved, but not as the Son of God." "Father" and "Son" in the Bible is not a title, but these are eternal relationship, positional status and identity which cannot either be replaced by any other titles or omitted. My son Utthan Edward is my son - here the son is a relation not a title. Attempting for such replacement would be considered as attack to Christianity. Such groups are responsible for dividing the church and putting the church into confusion. Being a Muslilm convert Christian myself, I do not have any problem or question to believe in the Fatherhood of God and the Sonship of Jesus.

Mis-translating holy scripture on purpose will bring the wrath of God upon you... This is Not doing God's work.

This is a scarey translation when you take the truth and change the whole message; which in trun will allow people to stay ignorant of the life changing grace of Jesus Christ.

These changes enourmously complicate the commitment to bearing witness to Jesus Christ. The familial language of the NT is essential to communicating the good new that God yearns that we know him as our loving heavenly Father. Sonship language for Jesus is essential in explaing the incarnation. I know of no local Christians in the settings where these translations are being developed who agree with these changes. In fact mos are keenly dismayed. I think it is impossible to assert that Christians do not tamper with the scriptures, if we go down this road. I implore those who going in this direction to stop and reconsider.

Adoption is part of the Gospel. The entire relationship described in John 17 might as well be thrown out. Actually, most of John might as well be thrown out if we remove this element of the Bible. This is basically a Galatians 1:8 issue, and I really don't say that lightly...

Changing The Father, The Son, The Holy Spirit is an apostacy. At a time when so many muslims are turning to Jesus and with His return soon..... I suppose that it's part of the falling away from the faith in prophecy.

As a former missionary myself, and good friends who were longtime missionaries in the Middle East, we know experientially that giving God's Word in it's Literal Translation form to Nationals, and allowing the Holy Spirit to do HIS Work while they read and study is what opens eyes to HIS Truth. How can anyone be a Christian and try to take Son of God out of the Bible. As I have heard one very well versed Christian say, " what are you going to do with 1 John?" If you take Son of God or any other phrase that relates to God as being the Father out of the Bible then you are calling God a liar!
